Our Passion for Gut Friendly & Fermented Foods
“As a mother I wanted to nourish my growing children with the best foods possible. I began studying nutrition and once qualified as a nutritional therapist, left college with a passion for using real food as a medicine… the foods our ancestors ate. And so began my love affair with fermented foods.”

Fun Fermentation Facts
Sauerkraut literally means “sour cabbage” in German — but versions of it have existed in China for over 2,000 years. Roman soldiers carried sauerkraut on long journeys because they believed it prevented illness.
Every spoonful of live sauerkraut contains millions (sometimes billions) of living microbes. Sauerkraut brine can be sipped as a gut-healthy tonic.
Kimchi is eaten with almost every meal in Korea, and there are more than 200 varieties! In some cultures, fermentation is celebrated in festivals — for example, Kimchi Day is a public holiday in South Korea.
Fermentation was one of the first forms of food preservation, keeping vegetables fresh through long winters.
Cheese, chocolate, coffee, soy sauce, and beer — all your favorite indulgences — rely on fermentation! The holes in Swiss cheese are caused by bacteria releasing CO₂ during fermentation.
Nearly every culture has its own ferments: kimchi (Korea), tempeh (Indonesia), injera (Ethiopia), kvass (Russia), dosa batter (India). Ancient Mexicans fermented cacao into an early chocolate drink long before solid chocolate existed.
Yogurt and kefir are two of the most widely consumed fermented foods in the world.
Fermentation can transform simple vegetables into dishes with entirely new flavors — tangy, spicy, umami-rich. Salt is the main ingredient that allows safe vegetable fermentation — it keeps the bad bacteria out while the good ones thrive.
Fermented foods are rich in probiotics, the “good bacteria” that help balance your gut microbiome. Around 70% of your immune system lives in your gut — so feeding it probiotic foods matters.
.
Fermentation can increase vitamin content (especially B vitamins, vitamin K, and vitamin C). Sauerkraut is one of the best plant-based sources of vitamin K2, linked to bone and heart health.
.
Probiotics may help improve digestion, reducing bloating and supporting regularity. Some studies suggest probiotics may play a role in mood and mental well-being through the gut-brain connection.
.
Fermented foods can help your body absorb minerals like iron, calcium, and zinc more efficiently. Eating live ferments can support a healthy balance of gut bacteria, which may be disrupted by stress, antibiotics, or poor diet.
Just a spoonful of kraut or kimchi can elevate a simple meal with crunch, color, and zing. Ferments are low in calories but high in flavor, making them a guilt-free addition to any diet.
Regularly consuming fermented foods has been linked with a diverse gut microbiome, considered a marker of good health. Fermentation reduces compounds called anti-nutrients (like phytates in grains and legumes), making food easier to digest.
Ferments last for months in the fridge — a natural, sustainable way to keep food fresh without artificial preservatives. Ferments are plant-based, natural, and minimally processed — simple foods you can trust.
They connect you with food traditions from around the world, from German kraut to Korean kimchi to Japanese miso. Sake, the Japanese rice wine, comes from fermenting rice with a special mold called koji.

Our Customer Stories

My first order with you, just tried the kimchi it was delicious, very well packaged, all jars and bottles came intact. The box was was a little bit damaged so I’m pleased it was well packaged, thank you, can’t wait to try them all, if your kimchi anything to go by, the rest are going to be delicious. I love supporting smaller firms instead of supermarkets.
I’m from the UK, so it takes a little while to come, I ordered enough products to get free delivery, thank you for the free gift, Cultured Food Company.
Patricia Davis

Very pleased with another order. The delivery was timely and the products are VERY well packaged in their plastic sleeves. Of course, I immediately JUST HAD to open one of the jars of Kimchi (my favorite), before I even stored the beetroot with ginger and the red beet sauerkraut in the cupboard. The red sauerkraut and the regular sauerkraut I make with sausages of various kinds and also with some pork chops, or just on its own.
The addition of thickly sliced onions is a habit of mine. Keep the quality of your products and your service and you’ll have a customer for a long while. Thank you.

Absolutely gorgeous products!
I especially love their Kimchi (perfect balance of punch and flavour) and Ruby Red Saurkraut (super tasty & juicy).
Wonderful products made with love, well packaged and excellent customer care.

Exceptional products, boasting amazing taste and top-notch quality, all at a very affordable price. One of the key factors that draws me to consume any of the fermented foods from your range is the cleanliness of the ingredients; simply vegetables, salt, and herbs—nothing more. It’s simply perfect and makes me love these products even more. The variety of options available is also highly satisfactory. The delivery was swift, and the products were exceptionally well-packaged.
Keep up the great work, Culture Food Company, and please maintain these high standards.

I ordered 4 jars of different flavours and had a minor hiccup with the order, which was immediately solved by brilliant customer service (thanks Muskan!). I just tried the Ruby Red Sauerkraut in a salad and it is delicious.
Katharine Beaumont

I got the kimchi from cultured food. Ordered it online and got it delivered in a day. The jar was exceptionally well packed. The kimchi is a bit different from what I’m getting in Asian shops.
This one is more alive, still fermenting in the jar. I liked it a lot its delicious.
I will buy again.

This is the second order of Sauerkraut I have had from this particular company and the third supplier of sauerkraut that I have tried. I would say that of the three this is by the best in terms of flavor and composition of ingredients. The jars of sauerkraut have always arrived safely and well packed. I will not look any further for my supplies of sauerkraut.
